The Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children's Services (OCS) is recruiting for a full-time Protective Service Specialist 1/2 in Wasilla, Alaska What you will be doing The individual in this position is responsible for Child Protection Services and is part of the Family Services Unit with a focus on permanency matters when children and youth cannot return home.
The incumbent will start as a level 1 (trainee) or 2 (journey) depending on experience and qualifications.
This position has a wide range of duties to support permanency efforts which includes tracking cases heading towards adoption or guardianship and assisting with addressing any barriers to permanency or next steps to finalization.
Duties may include:
request medical and school records and synthesize the information into a full disclosure document; complete or ensure background checks are conducted and assess if any safety concerns exist, refer applicants for a home study; gather legal documents and provide packets to state office and adoption attorneys; identify unmet needs and make any necessary referrals for services; identify cases needing application for Social Security benefits and apply for benefits and respond to payee issues or Social Security requests for information.
When applicable, identify candidates for a Medicaid Waiver or youth in need of adult guardianships or conservatorships and refer to the appropriate team member to respond; apply for certificates of degree of Indian blood (CDIB) or enroll youth and parents in tribes; and request tribal support letters.
As needed, request death and birth certificates; complete diligent inquiries to locate parents and relatives; write termination petitions; prepare children and families for adoption; assist with recruitment and retention efforts of adoptive families including the use of the Heart Gallery of AK, Wendy's Wonderful Kids Recruiter, and the PARKA program through ACRF; and consult on the appropriateness of the permanency goal.
Attend hearings; serve as an on-call worker; carry a small caseload for legally free children or OTRs for complex adoptions/guardianships; and assist with archiving adoption files.

Working environment you can expect This position is located in the Wasilla Field office, which is conveniently located next to many services and shipping such as Carrs.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster.
